It says: You have examined the cognitive faculties available to humans. You have shown that when humans use these cognitive faculties, they cannot possibly go beyond nature, where the supernatural begins. And now you say: Because we have proven this, occult science or the science of the supersensible is impossible. Those who speak in this way assume that occult science proves them wrong. But that is not the case. Occult science agrees with them completely; it stands precisely on the same point of view. Occult science says: You have investigated your cognitive faculties and shown exactly how far they can take you. You have shown that it cannot be used to enter the supersensible world. You are absolutely right; but you are making one mistake, the mistake of not sticking to the positive, of not merely asserting what you know, but adding something that you cannot know, by asserting that no human being can know it.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Mission of Esoteric Science in Our Time","site_heading":null,"date":"1907-10-10","location":null,"word_count":165,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/56/1907-10-10/p012","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2015","book_title":"Knowledge of Soul and Spirit","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA056/English/eLib2015/19071010p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/56/1907-10-10/p012"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/56/1907-10-10/p012","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
