These lectures were followed by discussions. These discussions will not be discussed in detail here. But when we speak of the mission of secret science in our time, one phenomenon should be mentioned because it must be considered particularly characteristic. It came across to us as particularly vivid when we spoke about “the Bible and wisdom.” There was not just one, but numerous personalities who objected to these things from the depths of their hearts. Objections were made that came from deep feelings, and among them was one that went something like this: In secret science, much is said about the sevenfold nature of man, about reincarnation and karma, about man's stay in the supersensible world between death and a new birth, about man's development through the various planetary states, and so on; demands are made on our spirit, on our thinking. But what we are seeking is not so much satisfaction of the mind as deepening of the soul, inner life. Aber wenn wir von der Mission der Geheimwissenschaft in unserer Zeit sprechen, soll eine Erscheinung berührt werden, weil sie als besonders charakteristisch gelten muß. Sie trat uns besonders lebensvoll entgegen, als wir über «Bibel und Weisheit» sprachen. Da war es nicht nur eine, sondern es waren zahlreiche Persönlichkeiten, die gegen diese Dinge aus der Tiefe ihres Herzens heraus etwas eingewendet haben, Einwände wurden gemacht, die aus tiefer Empfindung kamen, und darunter war einer, der ungefähr so lautete: Da wird in der Geheimwissenschaft vieles gesagt über die siebengliedrige Menschennatur, über Reinkarnation und Karma, den Aufenthalt der Menschen in der übersinnlichen Welt zwischen dem Tod und einer neuen Geburt, die Entwickelung des Menschen durch die verschiedenen planetarischen Zustände und so weiter; Anforderungen werden gestellt an unseren Geist, an unser Denken. Was wir suchen, ist aber nicht so sehr Befriedigung des Geistes, sondern Vertiefung der Seele, inneres Leben.
