Those who were below carried in their souls that which conquered the world, and that which took place above perished. It had to give way to that which rose up from the hidden places. Such was the course of events, and that is a source of comfort and hope for us. We know very well that, due to the peculiar circumstances of the times, we can only find ridicule and scorn. We find that we must act quietly and simply in a similar way, especially with those who may be despised by the so-called enlightened. But we also know that the picture will be similar to what it was then. We know that what was despised in the past will either seize and carry the others along with it, or it will pass them by. A correct view of secret science will transform our attitudes, our feelings, and our perceptions. Thus, even this initial consideration gives us something of the spiritual health that arises from the will to work in the world for the upward development of humanity. And to carry out this work in the spirit of our present age is the mission of secret science in our time.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Mission of Esoteric Science in Our Time","site_heading":null,"date":"1907-10-10","location":null,"word_count":222,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/56/1907-10-10/p041","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2015","book_title":"Knowledge of Soul and Spirit","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA056/English/eLib2015/19071010p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/56/1907-10-10/p041"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/56/1907-10-10/p041","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
