Even philosophers do not yet recognize this today. I can provide proof of this. A science that is not widely known to the public, mathematics, geometry, can provide it. No one can see a real circle in reality outside, no one can see outside what the law of nature tells them: 2 x 2 = 4. But through pure inner meditation, without counting beans, one can figure out that 2 x 2 = 4, or one can construct the circle through inner visualization, so that the circumference is always equidistant from the center. What did the great Plato write about his school? He said that no one could be admitted without knowledge of geometry. This did not mean that one had to know all of geometry, but that one had a corresponding sense for it. If we were to reproduce only the outer circle in terms of concepts, we would never be able to form a true circle. But we can form a circle in our minds and thus form the laws of the circle. So we must work out the circle from our own minds. This is what has been called non-sensory thinking in the secret schools. Mathematics is not popular, and yet it is the only non-sensory thinking that is practiced in our schools. Most people will laugh at you if you say that there are other concepts that can be found purely in the mind than those relating to space, numbers, and figures. People disregard and despise the philosophers and thinkers who have claimed that human beings can construct a system of ideas that is in harmony with the world.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Initiation or Consecration","site_heading":null,"date":"1907-11-28","location":null,"word_count":314,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/56/1907-11-28/p022","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2015","book_title":"Knowledge of Soul and Spirit","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA056/English/eLib2015/19071128p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/56/1907-11-28/p022"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/56/1907-11-28/p022","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
