It is said: Theosophy is something that drives people crazy. — It cannot be denied that it can also have a disturbing effect on this or that soul, just as healthy food can on a diseased stomach. But did the healthy food spoil the stomach? Many so-called derailed souls come to Theosophy; it is striking how many derailed souls come to it. Those who are compelled to work in this movement could tell you many sad stories, could tell you how cries for help come from here and there: I can no longer find my way in the world, I no longer know how to satisfy the longing of my heart. — The most pitiful cries for help, they come in greater numbers every day. This is the result of our materialistic culture, our materialistic attitude, which has given people — forgive the trivial expression — stones instead of bread. The superficiality of judgment could sometimes be satisfied. The desires and interests that lie dormant in the soul could not be satisfied. For a while, they can be suppressed and dulled, but then they push their way to the surface, and people come with their cries for help. It is undeniable that for some, it is then too late.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The So-Called Dangers of Initiation","site_heading":null,"date":"1907-12-12","location":null,"word_count":221,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/56/1907-12-12/p017","alignment_confidence":"medium","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2015","book_title":"Knowledge of Soul and Spirit","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA056/English/eLib2015/19071212p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/56/1907-12-12/p017"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/56/1907-12-12/p017","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
