We see, then, that there is a profound meaning in reading the words “the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob” at this point. The God who describes himself as the God “I am who I am” is the same as the fourth member of the human being, the same who allowed the I to flow into the human being. But human beings were unable to take the spiritual nature of the I into their consciousness. This required a longer period of preparation, which falls within the time described to us in the Bible as the Old Testament, from the time of Moses to the Mystery of Golgotha. Therefore, this time is a time of promise, represented by the New Gospel, the beginning of the “time of fulfillment.” Thus, the God who found expression in the words “I am that I am” announces himself to Moses. He announces himself in such a way that he orders the external order of human beings, their coexistence, through laws, indirectly through Moses' vision, through Moses' seeing. This is how humanity lived in pre-Christian times, when God created, when Yahweh formed, when “I am that I am” lived, but when humanity could not yet live consciously, but according to the external law that came from Yahweh. The time is drawing ever closer when humanity should become aware of the full self. Throughout antiquity, there was only one means for people who could not yet see, who could not yet encounter God in the physical world. There was only one way in which this God could become effective for them. That was the law, the order. This applied to the external world.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Bible and Wisdom II","site_heading":null,"date":"1908-11-14","location":null,"word_count":302,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-11-14/p027","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2014","book_title":"Where and How Does One Find the Spirit?","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA057/English/eLib2014/19081114p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/57/1908-11-14/p027"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-11-14/p027","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here. Das galt für die äußere Welt.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":303,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/57/1908-11-14/p027"}],"english":["GA 57/1908-11-14/p027"],"method":"identity","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":303,"en_words":302,"ratio":1.0,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"verified","verified":true,"evidence":["length","meaning","audit"]},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.02,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":8142,"original_word_count":8014,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2014","book_title":"Where and How Does One Find the Spirit?","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA057/English/eLib2014/19081114p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"entity_parity":{"status":"discrepancy","checked_against":["GA 57/1908-11-14/p027"],"missing_from_translation":[],"present_only_in_translation":["Christ"],"bead_confidence":"high","bead_length_ratio":1.0,"likely_cause":"unresolved","note":"NAME MISMATCH between this English passage and its German counterpart.
