What was initiation? It was everything that was handed down to certain personalities who were found suitable to apply the methods of spiritual scientific research in order to develop the powers and abilities slumbering within human beings, so that they could see into the spiritual world. For the followers of the Old Testament, it would therefore be like seeing God, who lives in the “I Am,” spiritually face to face. When they applied this method, they were enabled to hear and see with spiritual eyes and ears, to see for themselves what Moses saw when the God who is “I Am” gave him his mission. But this was only possible in the mysteries, only through initiation.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Bible and Wisdom II","site_heading":null,"date":"1908-11-14","location":null,"word_count":137,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-11-14/p028","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2014","book_title":"Where and How Does One Find the Spirit?","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA057/English/eLib2014/19081114p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/57/1908-11-14/p028"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-11-14/p028","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
