He was able to deliver the news and message to his listeners, to whom he was called to give the message. But only in the spiritual world could one see the “I am that I am.” Through the event at Golgotha, the same being who had announced himself to Moses in the burning bush with the words “I am that I am” descended into humanity. This is entirely in keeping with the Gospel of John: the I became flesh in the body of Jesus of Nazareth, dwelt in it, and walked among human beings. This was the primal force that brought human beings to the level at which they stand today. The primal force became human; a divine being became human and walked among human beings. The possibility existed that, within the historical course of humanity, there would one day be a historical event that the initiates could only contemplate in spirit, which took place on Golgotha as a historical event: that the Christ being had won the victory over the death of matter.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Bible and Wisdom II","site_heading":null,"date":"1908-11-14","location":null,"word_count":202,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-11-14/p030","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2014","book_title":"Where and How Does One Find the Spirit?","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA057/English/eLib2014/19081114p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/57/1908-11-14/p030"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-11-14/p030","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
