And when we look into the Bible in this way, it becomes once again the great universal book that illuminates what we ourselves have now discovered. Since we must admit — we can say this — that only those who have developed higher spiritual powers can arrive at these truths, we must also admit and be able to say, when we encounter them in the Gospel of John, what brought them into these writings. When a new spiritual researcher approached the Gospel and the entire Bible, he learned to see this and can say: People will once again come to appreciate the true value of this document and recognize that only a materialistic prejudice can utter the words: “the simple man from Nazareth.” But as a result of true knowledge, we have recognized in Christ an overwhelming world being who lived in the body of Jesus of Nazareth.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"The Bible and Wisdom II","site_heading":null,"date":"1908-11-14","location":null,"word_count":198,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-11-14/p037","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2014","book_title":"Where and How Does One Find the Spirit?","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA057/English/eLib2014/19081114p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/57/1908-11-14/p037"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-11-14/p037","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
