When Spiritual Science attaches a certain value to and investigates the nature of food, it does so because this reveals a very unique perspective on the relationship between human beings and nature. Human beings are indeed connected to nature in that they absorb their surrounding nature in a certain way, assimilating what is in it. And the question arises: by appropriating what is outside, does man become devoted to these forces that are at work outside, and can he free himself from these forces? Is there a possibility that man can free himself from his environment through his food, so that he gains a certain power and influence over his environment? Could it not be that human beings could in fact be what they eat, through a certain kind of diet — and could it not be that through a different kind of diet, human beings could free themselves from the constraints exerted on them by their diet? This raises the question for Spiritual Science: How must human nutrition be structured so that humans can free themselves from the constraints of nutrition, so that they can become more and more masters and rulers of what goes on within them?","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Questions Regarding Nutrition in the Light of Spiritual Science","site_heading":null,"date":"1908-12-17","location":null,"word_count":218,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-12-17/p006","alignment_confidence":"medium","alignment_reason":"beads:identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2014","book_title":"Where and How Does One Find the Spirit?","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA057/English/eLib2014/19081217p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/57/1908-12-17/p006"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1908-12-17/p006","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
