Children could serve as a kind of beacon for us. We must therefore bear in mind that children express their sympathy or antipathy for certain foods in very specific ways. Careful observation of these things would be extremely important for each of us. It is sometimes quite wrong for those who are responsible for guiding and educating children to try to suppress the instincts that arise in children and express themselves as certain desires, if they are considered to be bad behavior. Rather, what the child expresses as a drive or instinct is an indication of the nature of the child's inner being. What the child feels and what it likes, what it desires, is nothing more than an expression of the fact that the organism demands precisely this or that. Indeed, this guiding instinct of the child can be a pointer, or, to put it more radically, a beacon for knowledge. We can go through life and find everywhere the necessity that human beings must develop this inner certainty within themselves in a certain way for what their organism needs. This is more uncomfortable than having this or that party dictate the direction and tell us what is good for all people. People do not have it as easy as those who come up with a specific general recipe that you only need to put in your pocket to know what can make people healthy and what can make them sick. Precisely when you look at health with such a guide, you will also have to realize with regard to illness that different people have very different conditions for health and healing.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Questions Regarding Health in Light of Spiritual Science","site_heading":null,"date":"1909-01-14","location":null,"word_count":287,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1909-01-14/p019","alignment_confidence":"medium","alignment_reason":"beads:structural_identity","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"eLib2014","book_title":"Where and How Does One Find the Spirit?","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA057/English/eLib2014/19090114p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/57/1909-01-14/p019"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/57/1909-01-14/p019","paragraph_aligned":true}],"record":{"record_type":"unknown","scope":"volume","note":"How this text was taken down (shorthand transcript, listeners' notes or manuscript) is not on record here.
