It is always a pleasure to see that some old teachers knew of these things, whether by instinct or by inspiration. Rotteck's old *World History*, for example: it was to be found in our fathers' libraries and it may now be out of date here and there, but if we approach it with understanding we encounter a quite individual method of presentation which shows that Rotteck, who taught history in Freiburg, had a way of teaching which was the very reverse of dry or insipid. We have only to read the Foreword, which is quite out of the ordinary in spirit, to feel: here is a man who knows that in addressing young people of this age—from 14 to 21, when the astral body is developing—he must bring them into touch with the power of great, beautiful ideals. Rotteck is always at pains to show how we can be inspired by the great thoughts of the heroes and to kindle the enthusiasm that can be felt for all that men and women have striven for and suffered in the course of human evolution.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":200,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/58/1910-03-14/p044","german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"1910-03-14","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 58/1910-03-14/p048","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/58/1910-03-14/p048"}],"bead_confidence":"medium","pairing_state":"verified","verified":true,"evidence":["length","anchors","reader"],"reader_german":["GA 58/1910-03-14/p048"],"reader_part":true,"length_check":{"de_words":290,"en_words":264,"ratio":0.91,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative, so the same number need not name the same paragraph in the German.
