Nothing of this experience enters the conscious life of day. Something is nonetheless there in the soul, just as hunger is present in the bodily organism. And just as one needs something to satisfy hunger, so one needs something to satisfy this indefinite mood deriving from the experience lying deep within the soul. One then feels the urge to reach either for an existing fairy tale, for a saga, or if one is of an artistic disposition, perhaps to elaborate something of the kind oneself. Here it is as though all theoretical words one might make use of amount to stammering; and that is how fairy tales arise. Filling the soul with fairy tale pictures in this way constitutes nourishment for the soul as regards the “hunger” referred to.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Fairy Tales in the Light of Spiritual Investigation","date":"1913-02-06","location":null,"word_count":157,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/62/1913-02-06/p020","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"count_diverges","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/62/1913-02-06/p020"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/62/1913-02-06/p020","paragraph_aligned":true}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"1913-02-06","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 62/1913-02-06/p020","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/62/1913-02-06/p020"}],"bead_confidence":"medium","length_check":{"de_words":175,"en_words":157,"ratio":0.9,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative and this passage's lecture alignment is imperfect.
