Before speaking of this fairy tale, let us remind ourselves that, as shown by spiritual investigation, the human soul is also closely linked to prevailing occurrences and facts of the universe. Even if stated rather too graphically, it is still nonetheless true in a certain respect, from a spiritual scientific point of view, if we say: When the human soul leaves the physical body in sleep, it leads an existence in direct connection with the entire cosmos, feeling itself related to the entire cosmos. We may remind ourselves of the relationship of the human soul, or for example, of the human “I” with the cosmos—at least with something of significance in the cosmos. We direct our gaze to the plant world and tell ourselves: The plant grows, but it can only do so under the influence of the sun's light and warmth. We have before us the plant rooted in the earth. In spiritual science we say: the plant consists of its physical body and of the life-body which permeates it. But that does not suffice for the plant to grow and unfold itself. For that, the forces are required that work on the plant from the sun.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Fairy Tales in the Light of Spiritual Investigation","date":"1913-02-06","location":null,"word_count":211,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/62/1913-02-06/p035","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"count_diverges","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/62/1913-02-06/p035"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/62/1913-02-06/p035","paragraph_aligned":true}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"1913-02-06","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 62/1913-02-06/p035","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/62/1913-02-06/p035"}],"bead_confidence":"medium","length_check":{"de_words":195,"en_words":211,"ratio":1.08,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative and this passage's lecture alignment is imperfect.
