But man can never lose the connection with the spiritual, and so the longing arose there to find the way to the old clairvoyance by artificial means. That artificial clairvoyance arose there, which the wise strove for through inner development - yoga. Thus in India we have artificial clairvoyance with complete consciousness during the day, while among the Teutons the old consciousness of clairvoyance is still preserved. Among the Teutons, myths and legends form a dim expression of the secret doctrine as compared with that obtained by the initiates of modern times through artificial clairvoyance. For the people who no longer have clairvoyance, the divine worlds must be depicted. That is where the idol images come from, artificially prepared replicas by man. Among the ancient Germans, the old myths still lived in the people, in the old, retained symbolism, while in ancient India, the secret doctrine is artificially expressed by those who aspire to it. What we obtain from India is therefore more of an intellectual form, but the same secret doctrine that is expressed much more directly in the old Germanic myths.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"18. Was wir von Indien beziehen, ist daher mehr von verstandesmäßiger Form, aber dieselbe Geheimlehre, die in den alten germanischen Mythen viel unmittelbarer zum Ausdruck kommt.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":183,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/68a/1906-04-22/p040"}],"english":["GA 68a/1906-04-22/p040"],"method":"identity","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":183,"en_words":199,"ratio":1.09,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"verified","verified":true,"evidence":["length","meaning","audit"]},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.11,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":4086,"original_word_count":3694,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"The Essence of Christianity","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA068a/English/SOL2024/19060422p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
