The facts investigated by science can be admirable, but the conclusions drawn from them are often dreadful because of the impractical thinking of the person drawing them. How can it be proved to many today that there is actually no soul, that everything a person accomplishes is based on purely mechanical laws? Yes, you can still find a very strange conclusion in the first pages of a “Outline of Psychology” — written by a person who is highly respected. Anyone with even a spark of understanding and practical thinking will immediately be able to reduce this to its true value. It says: Earlier times said that there was an independent soul; but today man has also been drawn into this web of the preservation of strength. It was first investigated, they say, in animals that everything that is fed to them is only transformed, and that what they do is transformed food. What the animals receive as strength is only converted food. How could there be an independent soul when only what you have stuffed in comes out converted?","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"49. Wie sollte da eine selbstständige Seele sein, wenn das bloß umgewandelt herauskommt, was man hineingestopft hat?","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":210,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/68b/1909-02-13/p045"}],"english":["GA 68b/1909-02-13/p045"],"method":"identity","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":210,"en_words":203,"ratio":0.97,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"verified","verified":true,"evidence":["length","reader"],"reader_german":["GA 68b/1909-02-13/p045"]},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.02,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":8301,"original_word_count":8161,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"The Circular Flow of Man's Life within the World Of Sense, Soul And Spirit","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA068b/English/SOL2024/19090213p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
