If we look around today, for example, to see what volitional impulses led to the events of the war in recent years that have so terribly shaken the world, we cannot possibly answer, because the will of human beings was least of all at work in them. There was a kind of determination by powers that had seized control of people's decisions. Almost everywhere we see that in 1914, when decisive resolutions were made, we cannot even begin to hold people responsible. It would be a psychological absurdity to somehow blame Berchtold's diplomatic clumsiness for the Serbian ultimatum or the like. Such things may be part of the campaign of confusion and lies that is sweeping the world today, but they cannot stand up to serious psychological scrutiny. On a large scale, what is expressed on a small scale must be carefully examined.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"2. Im Großen drückt sich schon dasjenige aus, was im Kleinen durchaus angeschaut werden muß.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":178,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/73a/1920-03-25/p010"}],"english":["GA 73a/1920-03-25/p009"],"method":"length","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":178,"en_words":176,"ratio":0.99,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.02,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":1747,"original_word_count":1707,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"Scientific Disciplines and Anthroposophy","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA073a/English/SOL2024/19200325p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
