That was born out of the thinking of its time, out of the whole science of its time, so to speak. Today we are in an age in which, if we want to found a science on supersensible foundations, we have to take into account what has been brought forth in human development through the work of such minds as Copernicus, Galileo and many others whom I will not name now. And in saying this, one implicitly declares that it is impossible to take the standpoint of Gnosticism, which of course had nothing of modern science. But it may be pointed out that this Gnostic point of view was in a certain respect the opposite of what is often regarded today as the basic note of science. Aber darauf darf doch hingedeutet werden, daß dieser gnostische Standpunkt eben in einer gewissen Beziehung das Gegenteil war dessen, was heute vielfach als Grundnote der Wissenschaftlichkeit auftritt.
