If there is a period of life that cannot be reached in memory, where the thread of life is interrupted, something will show up that disturbs the self so much that the self, the center of the human soul, cannot feel healthy. And you also know how morbid conditions can intervene in the ego and how, through the rupture of memory, quite terrible mental illnesses can arise. There are people – you will have heard of them, my dear audience – who got on a train somewhere and rode it to some point. Then they got off. They only found their way again later. They have completely severed the thread of life. And afterwards? They cannot remember what they have been through. This thread of memory is what holds our ego together.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"2. Dieser Erinnerungsfaden ist das, was unser Ich zusammenhiält.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":201,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/80b/1921-01-28/p017"}],"english":["GA 80b/1921-01-28/p017"],"method":"identity","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":201,"en_words":187,"ratio":0.93,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"verified","verified":true,"evidence":["length","meaning","audit"]},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.01,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":17469,"original_word_count":17257,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"The Inner Nature and Essence of the Human Soul","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA080b/English/SOL2024/19210128p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
