If a person does not have the right inner support, if he feels like he is floating in the void as a mere material being, he cannot develop a strong inner being, nor can he appear as a strong being in social life. Man must create what external institutions are, man must create what external social conditions are. There is something significant about external institutions and external social conditions in terms of the great civilizational questions of the present and the future, and these civilizational questions lead us back to the search for the great, true consciousness of humanity. For only people who have such inner support, which can give them peace of mind, will be able to integrate themselves properly into social life. That is the first question: how can a person with inner support, with a secure hold on life, integrate themselves into our social conditions? The second is what we might call the encounter between people, human interaction. And here we enter a field where, no less than in the field of knowledge, modern civilization has brought man not new solutions but new riddles. Consider only the breadth of technology, of technical life, that the achievements of modern natural science have brought. Technical life, commercial life, life of intercourse, as they surround us from hour to hour today, they are the achievements of this magnificent, modern view of nature. But what we have not found within modern technology, what is posed as a new vital question, is: How should people live in this complicated technical, commercial and transport life?","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"4. Was wir aber innerhalb der modernen Technik gerade nicht gefunden haben, was als neue Lebensfrage uns aufgegeben ist, das ist: Wie sollen die Menschen leben in diesem komplizierten technischen, kommerziellen und Verkehrs-Leben?","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":274,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/80c/1921-02-23/p049"}],"english":["GA 80c/1921-02-23/p050"],"method":"length","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":274,"en_words":274,"ratio":1.0,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.04,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":9108,"original_word_count":8774,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Steiner Online Library","identified_edition":"SOL2024","book_title":"Anthroposophical Spiritual Science and the Big Questions of Contemporary Civilization","publisher":"Steiner Online Library","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA080c/English/SOL2024/19210223p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
