This body, which is connected with the solid part of the Earth is the first state or condition of human nature. It has not always been like this. The Earth was very different in earlier times. Today’s solid part was in a different state then, mingled with something of very different substance nature which has since been separated off. It would be referred to more or less like this: \\(Ph\\) + \\(S\\) = Physical body + Spirit. With this formula, people learned to look at the way in which the spirit has built up the body. We may indeed marvel to see the wonderful way in which the struts are positioned in the thigh bone. The wisest architect could not have found a better solution to the problem [of managing] with the smallest amount of matter [to have the whole body supported]. Or if we consider the anatomy of the heart, which functions for a whole life in such a wonderful way in spite of all the damage people cause from lack of sense, consuming poisons such as alcohol, coffee, and so on. If we think of this spirit as an effective, active power mixed into matter, we have the two states in which the body is able to exist. In the original vestment the spirit was still active by penetrating and configuring it directly and all the way. It then separated from this.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Symbols reflecting original wisdom","site_heading":null,"date":"1905-03-27","location":null,"word_count":256,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/89/1905-03-27/p013","alignment_confidence":"low","alignment_reason":"count_diverges","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":{"scope":"unit","status":"established","translator":"Anna Meuss","identified_edition":"CMP2001","book_title":"Awareness—Life—Form","publisher":null,"publisher_inferred":false,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA089/English/CMP2001/19050327p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line"},"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["English"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/89/1905-03-27/p013"},{"lang":"en","edition":"English","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/89/1905-03-27/p013"}],"record":{"record_type":"listeners_notes","scope":"unit","note":"This text is a newspaper's or a listener's report of the lecture, not a transcript.
