That I can distinguish what is correct from what is incorrect depends on the fact that I, as a human being, am a thinking being, able to grasp the truth in my spirit. Truth is eternal; and it could always reveal itself to me again in things, even if I were always to lose sight of the past and each impression were to be a new one to me. But the spirit within me is not restricted to the impressions of the present alone; the soul extends its horizon over the past. And the more it is able to bring to the spirit out of the past, the richer does it make the spirit. Thus the soul hands on to the spirit what it has received from the body. The spirit of man therefore carries at each moment of its life a two-fold possession within itself: firstly the eternal laws of the good and the true; secondly, the remembrance of the experiences of the past. What it does, it accomplishes under the influence of these two factors. If we want to understand a human spirit we must therefore know two different things about it: first, how much of the eternal has revealed itself to it; second, how much treasure from the past lies stored up within it.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Re-imbodiment of the Spirit and Destiny","site_heading":null,"date":null,"location":null,"word_count":231,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/9/l02/p007","alignment_confidence":"high","alignment_reason":"beads:length","two_voice_volume":false,"translation_credit":null,"edition_coverage":{"de":["original"],"en":["AP1971","RSP1965"]},"available_versions":[{"lang":"en","edition":"RSP1965","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":true,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/9/l02/p007","paragraph_aligned":true},{"lang":"en","edition":"AP1971","edition_basis":null,"is_original":false,"is_default_edition":false,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/en/ga/9/l02/p007?edition=AP1971","paragraph_aligned":true},{"lang":"de","edition":"original","edition_basis":null,"is_original":true,"is_default_edition":true,"locus":"GA 9/wiederverkörperung_des_geistes_und_schicksal/p007","anchor_mapped":true,"anchor_method":"positional","anchor_confidence":"medium","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/9/wiederverkörperung_des_geistes_und_schicksal/p007"}],"german_anchor":{"de_prefix":"wiederverkörperung_des_geistes_und_schicksal","de_passages":[{"locus":"GA 9/wiederverkörperung_des_geistes_und_schicksal/p005","url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/9/wiederverkörperung_des_geistes_und_schicksal/p005"}],"bead_confidence":"high","length_check":{"de_words":206,"en_words":231,"ratio":1.12,"partial":false},"correspondence":"established","note":"English passage numbering is edition-relative, so the same number need not name the same paragraph in the German.
