Record: listeners' notes. Written from listeners' notes, summaries, or memory rather than a shorthand transcript. The wording is the note-taker's as much as Steiner's: weigh a single striking phrase here far more cautiously than the same phrase in a stenographic volume, and do not rest an argument on one word. Evidence: «Frühe Vortragsreihen und Einzelvorträge für Mitglieder in Berlin 1903–1904 nach ausführlichen und z.T. fragmentarischen Mitschriften.» (Early lecture series and single lectures for members in Berlin 1903-1904, from detailed and in part fragmentary listeners' transcripts.). The publisher's description of the volume, as mirrored on AnthroWiki (GA 90a); the description calls them "Hörermitschriften", and the served text carries the note-taker's gap marker "[Lücke in der Mitschrift]". The translation is the maintainer's, not a published one.
So you see that in the Gospel of John it is suggested that the Logos can become conscious in man and that those who can become aware of this state are called sons of God. That is why he said elsewhere: You are gods – and he thus explains why he calls himself a son of God. If we keep this in mind, John had two things to give: firstly, that the ancient consciousness that man has a divine consciousness within him can come to a head, can become an experience, and secondly, that the one who lived in Palestine was the revelation of the same Logos who lives in every human being in general and who came among people as Logos. From him one had to grasp that he became the Logos at this excellent place and at the excellent time.
