Record: listeners' notes. Written from listeners' notes, summaries, or memory rather than a shorthand transcript. The wording is the note-taker's as much as Steiner's: weigh a single striking phrase here far more cautiously than the same phrase in a stenographic volume, and do not rest an argument on one word. Evidence: «Frühe Vortragsreihen und Einzelvorträge für Mitglieder in Berlin 1905–1906 nach ausführlichen und z.T. fragmentarischen Mitschriften.» (Early lecture series and single lectures for members in Berlin 1905-1906, from detailed and in part fragmentary listeners' transcripts.). The publisher's description of the volume, as mirrored on AnthroWiki (GA 90b); the description calls them "Hörermitschriften", and the served text carries the note-taker's gap marker "[Lücke in der Mitschrift]". The translation is the maintainer's, not a published one.

Above all, be aware that the Apocalypse is one of the most important and profound works in the world, containing the greatest of secrets. And also be aware that explaining the Apocalypse is an extremely difficult task, because there can be so little preparation for such an understanding at the present time. Hardly any explanation of the Apocalypse was given in Europe during the nineteenth century. Only now, after a long time, are we able to speak of the Apocalypse again. Be aware that the explanation of the Apocalypse as we give it is related to the very deepest secrets, and that you are hearing something in our time that was closed to man through the course of spiritual development and through the general course of the world. One must be lenient with oneself if not everything can be clear and transparent from the beginning. It is not possible for the difficult to be clear from the start.
