Record: listeners' notes. Written from listeners' notes, summaries, or memory rather than a shorthand transcript. The wording is the note-taker's as much as Steiner's: weigh a single striking phrase here far more cautiously than the same phrase in a stenographic volume, and do not rest an argument on one word. Evidence: «Frühe Vortragsreihen und Einzelvorträge für Mitglieder in Berlin 1905–1906 nach ausführlichen und z.T. fragmentarischen Mitschriften.» (Early lecture series and single lectures for members in Berlin 1905-1906, from detailed and in part fragmentary listeners' transcripts.). The publisher's description of the volume, as mirrored on AnthroWiki (GA 90b); the description calls them "Hörermitschriften", and the served text carries the note-taker's gap marker "[Lücke in der Mitschrift]". The translation is the maintainer's, not a published one.
So there are still three globes to come, each with seven members, equal to 21 members, so that we have 7 x 7 members, that is 49 metamorphoses that we have to go through. These 49 metamorphoses are not written down by the esotericist in the same way as by the modern man. [Esotericism does not use the decimal system, but the system of seven.] 66 does not mean 66 to the esotericist, but [6 x 6 =] 36; according to the system of seven, that makes: 7 x 7 = 49. Thus you can understand what it means when the esoteric writes 77. For him, this does not mean 77, but 7 x 7 = 49 metamorphoses. On each planet there are seven root races. So we have seven chains, each with seven planets or globes, and each globe with seven root races, which makes a total of 343 states. This number plays a certain role in the Secret Doctrine. In the early days, the matter was very poorly understood. The relationship with the master is such that one solves the problem oneself, and then receives the answer from the master, whether it is right or not.
