In order to do this we must, as it were, take up our position under a certain organ. This is most aptly expressed in the Buddha legend. It says in the legend that Buddha remained seated under the Bodhi tree until he attained illumination in order to rise to higher stages, to Nirvana. For this Buddha had to place himself under the brain, under the organ of consciousness. That means the paths he had previously traversed unconsciously he had to traverse again consciously. Under the large brain there lies, more towards the back of the head, the small, tree shaped brain (the cerebellum). Under this brain Buddha placed himself. The cerebellum is the Bodhi tree. This shows how what is said in such profound legends is actually taken from human evolution.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Lecture XII","site_heading":"The Four-Fold Human Being and Evolutionary Development","site_heading_note":"A heading the site wrote for this unit from a summary of it; not in the edition, and not the words of Rudolf Steiner or of the translator. Das zeigt, wie das, was so tiefe Legenden sagen, der menschlichen Entwickelung selbst entnommen ist.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":132,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/93a/1905-10-07/p013"}],"english":["GA 93a/1905-10-07/p013"],"method":"length","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":132,"en_words":156,"ratio":1.18,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.12,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":3113,"original_word_count":2772,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Vera and Judith Compton-Burnett","identified_edition":"RSP1982","book_title":"Foundations of Esotericism","publisher":"Rudolf Steiner Press","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA093a/English/RSP1982/19051007p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
