If someone works artistically either in a visual or plastic way, this has an effect on the etheric body. An artistically formed piece of sculpture or a painting works directly on the etheric body. A virtue, on the other hand, works on the astral body. Many noble human beings who return from Devachan meet an etheric body which is in no way suited to their advanced astral body, because they have done nothing in the way of organised activity in the sphere of beauty. It therefore happens that many people who in their last incarnation lived very holy lives, but without concerning themselves with what is noble in the outer world of the senses, when approaching reincarnation experience a fear of re-birth, because they have not ennobled their etheric body through that beauty which is dependent on the senses.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"title":"Lecture XXI","site_heading":"Law of Effect and Counter-Effect in Spiritual Planes","site_heading_note":"A heading the site wrote for this unit from a summary of it; not in the edition, and not the words of Rudolf Steiner or of the translator. Eine Tugend wirkt dagegen auf den Astralkörper. Daher geschieht es, daß viele Menschen, die in der letzten Inkarnation sehr heilig gelebt haben, aber ohne sich mit dem äußerlich sinnlich Edlen zu befassen, bei der Reinkarnation eine Furcht vor der Inkarnation haben, weil ihr Ätherkörper sich nicht durch das sinnlich Schöne veredelt hat.","text_trust":"verbatim","quote_safe":true,"word_count":129,"url":"https://anthroposophy.ai/v1/steiner/de/ga/93a/1905-10-19/p015"}],"english":["GA 93a/1905-10-19/p016"],"method":"length","confidence":"high","correspondence":"established","length_check":{"de_words":129,"en_words":159,"ratio":1.23,"partial":false},"pairing_state":"proposed","verified":false},"witness_completeness":{"ratio":1.1,"band":"comparable","note":null,"word_count":3076,"original_word_count":2791,"may_be_abridged":false},"witness_quality":{"translator":{"scope":"unit","status":"recorded","translator":"Vera and Judith Compton-Burnett","identified_edition":"RSP1982","book_title":"Foundations of Esotericism","publisher":"Rudolf Steiner Press","publisher_inferred":true,"match_score":1.0,"source_url":"https://www.rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA093a/English/RSP1982/19051019p01.html","evidence":"lecture_page_line","publisher_note":"The publisher is inferred from the edition code in this lecture's source URL, not stated by the source page.
