The Origin and Development of Eurythmy 1912–1918

GA 277a — Leipzig

Notes on the Development of Eurythmy (Leipzig, December 1913)

Erna van Deventer, note in the galley proofs for GA 277a (1965)

In response to my question in Leipzig in 1913 about how to express words such as melancholy and delusion, which express something more internal than surge, wave, etc., Dr. Steiner said: “For the more internal w, make a u, but with your hands feeling heavy, pulling downwards; for the other w, you have to set the internal w in motion, and then you will achieve a wave-like movement.”
