Record: listeners' notes. Written from listeners' notes, summaries, or memory rather than a shorthand transcript. The wording is the note-taker's as much as Steiner's: weigh a single striking phrase here far more cautiously than the same phrase in a stenographic volume, and do not rest an argument on one word. Evidence: «Frühe Vortragsreihen und Einzelvorträge für Mitglieder in Berlin 1903–1904 nach ausführlichen und z.T. fragmentarischen Mitschriften.» (Early lecture series and single lectures for members in Berlin 1903-1904, from detailed and in part fragmentary listeners' transcripts.). The publisher's description of the volume, as mirrored on AnthroWiki (GA 90a); the description calls them "Hörermitschriften", and the served text carries the note-taker's gap marker "[Lücke in der Mitschrift]". The translation is the maintainer's, not a published one.

On the one hand, there is now birth and death and thus bisexuality. Before the fourth round, there was no bisexual animal sex. Only when Manas moves into the nervous system does it withdraw the power from the covers to produce a uniform one. They must first be stimulated. What sexuality offers from the outside is what used to be from the inside. The combining activity of the mind replaces the earlier productive creation out of itself; Manas withdraws the single sex. Animals with only one sex have so far had no manasic spark. Man, by setting the animal sex aside [gap in the transcript], gave it the dual sex as a thank-you gift. The manasic wants to work outwardly - that is why the human race was mute in the third round and is still animal; only the animal that forms the transition becomes vocal. Voice and sexuality are two poles that are closely related. In the fourth round, language will develop higher and higher - the danger of sexuality will lead ever deeper and deeper.
