Record: listeners' notes. Written from listeners' notes, summaries, or memory rather than a shorthand transcript. The wording is the note-taker's as much as Steiner's: weigh a single striking phrase here far more cautiously than the same phrase in a stenographic volume, and do not rest an argument on one word. Evidence: «Frühe Vortragsreihen und Einzelvorträge für Mitglieder in Berlin 1905–1906 nach ausführlichen und z.T. fragmentarischen Mitschriften.» (Early lecture series and single lectures for members in Berlin 1905-1906, from detailed and in part fragmentary listeners' transcripts.). The publisher's description of the volume, as mirrored on AnthroWiki (GA 90b); the description calls them "Hörermitschriften", and the served text carries the note-taker's gap marker "[Lücke in der Mitschrift]". The translation is the maintainer's, not a published one.

However, one might not even realize the way in which research in this field comes about at all. I would like to speak here first of all about the case that has been discussed here, namely the case that constitutes a point of difference - not in the rest of esotericism, but in the younger current that has found expression in the Theosophical movement [as in Sinnett, Leadbeater and Blavatsky]. The theosophical movement is actually a very young movement compared to the occult movement. It was founded in 1875. But occultism is thousands of years old. In Europe, there were the same teachings as those brought by Theosophy; Theosophy also existed in Europe, only in the eighteenth century it receded somewhat because materialism did not allow these things to be spoken of. Materialism is something that has a scaring effect on the sacred science of occultism.
